Singapore

2003 – 2005

Singapore infused an air of brightness into HM’s work.  Rich in sky blue, celadon, and pink, the Lilies series incorporate flowers and dragonflies, new motifs in HM’s work.  Scroll-shaped canvases become the preferred choice and, for this scroll series, HM paints thick backgrounds of woven browns to set the stage for new motifs: bright yellow flowers, bird cages, red lanterns, bicycle wheels, and calligraphy brushes. HM also revisits trees as symbols, this time creating a forest in Aspen Trees. Juxtaposing the brightness, HM brings her monochrome paintings to the forefront in this collection, which she displayed at Eight Treasures Antiques Gallery.
